What is the difference between a MD and a DO?
Both are fully licensed physicians. They have graduated from medical school and completed a residency program. A MD is sometimes called an allopathic physician, and a DO is an osteopathic physician. The main difference is in the philosophy of treatment, DO's are trained in manipulation, which involves manipulation of the musculoskeletal system. This is similar to chiropractors, but not all DO's actively practice manipulation.
